Is the Periodic Table still useful in its current form or does it need to change?

Image
The Periodic table is set up in a particular way by scientists with most being done over 100 years ago. Is that set-up still useful and meaningful to today's students who have to use it to interpret chemistry?  Can we still claim that the Periodic Table talks a universal language and there is a finite number of elements that could possibly exist?

Learning to be balanced

One of the great things about technology is we get to share. Part of learning is knowing what to share and to give balanced and appropriate opinions that are able to be supported by evidence. This is an important skill that we all need and part of the science program. My students will be guest bloggers and provide their thoughts and insights on a variety of topics that arise as we continue through our science course. Over the coming year, I will ask students from years 7 through 10 about their opinions and understandings of quite a few topics. I hope that they realise that finding out both sides of an argument is the best way to really gain a balanced view of any subject.
